There were some Murkovic's in Slovenia about four generations back (as per Michael Murkovic from Graz, Austria) and we know that some have emigrated there from Međimure, Croatia in the last generation or so. Velenje - Tomo's family
Štefan Murković, was born in Miklavec, Međimurje, Croatia and moved to Velenje, Slovenia in 1957 or 1958. At that time both Slovenia and Croatia were part of Yugoslavia, so it was more like a move than an emigration. His older brother Ivan also lives in Velenje. His brother Josip (not sure if this name is correct) lives in the town where he was born, Miklavec. His sister Terezija live somewhere in Germany with her husband and his youngest brother Feri or Ferdinand lives in Switzerland but he also built a home in his city of birth, Miklavec.
Tomo Murkovič, Štefan's grandson, was born in Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia but lives in Velenje, Slovenia with his sisters Maja (1991) and Tina (2003), his father Robi Murkovič (1966) (also born in Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia) and his mother Tatjana Murkovič (1966).

Slovenska Bistrica - Darja's family
Darja Murković Žigart lives in Slovenska Bistrica. She is the CIO at Pošta Slovenije. Her father Ivan (1934) and her mother Zofka (?) also live there and they derive from Miklavec, Međimurje, Croatia. She has 8 brothers and sisters. One sister is called Natasa. Natasa married Bostjan Bedekovic and has two sons.

|Janos Murkovič (madžarsko Murkovics János) je slovenski učitelj, pisatelj in glasbenik na Madžarskem. * Mala Nedelja, 23. december, 1839; † Lendavske Gorice, 15. april, 1917.
Rodil se je pri Ljutomeru, na Štajerskem. Njegova družina je bila hrvaškega rodu. Študiral je v Nemčiji, od leta 1862 je delal na Madžarskem v Beltincih. Tam je napisal prvo in edino svojo delo Abecednik. Učbenik zato je pomembno, ker to je bila prva knjiga v prekmurščini, ko so jo napisali na Gajici. Najprej so Madžarski Slovenci samo z madžarskim črkopisom pisali. Kasneje še dve deli sta izvirali na Gajici: Prirodopis Imreta Augustiča in Perve knige Jožefa Bagarija.
Leta 1878 Murkovič je izselil iz Beltinec in delal v Trbovljah. Od leta 1880 v Dolnji Lendavi je učil, 1910 hodil v pokoj. Živil je na Lendavskih Goricah in so ga pokopali. Znan je bil, da na ženitovanju in v zabavi igral na violino.

His family was of Croatian descent. He studied in Germany, since 1862, he worked in Hungary in Beltinci. There he wrote his first and only job Alphabet.
