Zora Kundinger (1922-2014)

Zora, the youngest child of Peter and Lucy, was born on January 9, 1922 and was brought up in Glidden, WI. At the age of 21, on June 8, 1943, she married 22 year old Louis R. Kundinger of Park Falls, which was some 16 miles away. Louis was the 12th (aka Louis the 12th) of 14 children and was known as "Lutz" to his friends.

Lutz had joined the U.S. Air Force at age 20 in 1941 and he and Zora led a military life, travelling to various posts. As a result of this lifestyle and as she was the youngest, Zora was not as close to her brothers and sisters as she might have been.

Zora currently (May 2013) lives in Park Falls and has three sons and a daughter:
  1. Tom (Ravelle) Kundinger (Thomas), residing in Horseshoe Bay, TX (May 2013).
  2. Linda Kundinger, currently residing in Park Falls, WI (May 2013).
  3. Bob (Donna) (Robert), currently residing in Lexington, KY (May 2013)
  4. Steve Kundinger (Steven), currently residing in Milwaukee (May 2013).
She also has 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren

Her husband, Lutz died on June 25, 1999, age 78 in a hospital in Park Falls. The burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls, with military rites under the auspices of Dirrigl-Sawales American Legion Post No. 182 and Heisler-Mockler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6903, both of Park Falls. Lutz was born Feb. 10, 1921, at the Kundinger family homestead near Park Falls. His parents, John and Mary Kundinger, were pioneers of the area. He attended Park Falls Lincoln High School and Wausau Technical College.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years, retiring as a colonel in 1966 in Austin, TX. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During his military career, he distinguished himself as a director of material and supply, receiving numerous commendations, including commendation from the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, DC. Following retirement from the service, he and his family returned to Park Falls. He was involved in church, civic and charitable activities. He took particular pride in serving as finance chairman of the Park Falls Centennial Committee, on whose behalf he was primary fundraiser.

Zora passed way on January 6, 2014. see obituary

Zora Kundinger, age 91, of Park Falls, passed away on Jan. 6 at Park Manor Nursing Home, under the care of Flambeau Home Health and Hospice.

Zora was born in Glidden, the youngest daughter of Peter and Lucy Murkovich. She graduated from Glidden High School in 1939, where she was an outstanding and involved student. On June 8, 1943, she married Louis R. (Lutz) Kundinger, and for the next 23 years Zora was the consummate Air Force wife, orchestrating frequent moves with competence and always ensuring each station was a comfortable home to her husband and her four children. Her most fulfilling role was being a mother, and Zora was a darn good one -- and manifestly proud of her children. She was a dedicated crossword puzzler; a brilliant bridge player; an avid reader; a fervent Packer Backer; and an enthusiastic spectator at the sporting events of her grandchildren. Zora also particularly enjoyed being included in The Kundinger Cousins Birthday gatherings and playing “Nickels.”

Zora is survived by her devoted children: Tom (Ravelle), Horseshoe Bay, TX; Linda, Park Falls, WI ; Bob (Donna), Lexington, KY; and Steve (special friend Sue Banski), Waukesha, WI. She is also survived by her special grandchildren: Scott Sanders, Heather Neary (Jen), Channing Neary Adams (Roy), (Mark (Aela) Kundinger, Jake (Colleen) Kundinger, Andy (Jen) Kundinger, Kimberley Kundinger Meehan (Mike ), Pete Kundinger (Emily Reppert), and Jonathan Kundinger; as well as eight great grandchildren, who were the delight of her life: Jenna, Bailey, and Kaitlyn Sanders; Luke, Cassidy and Jack Kundinger; Hailey and Drew Kundinger; Bradyn and Parker Kundinger; and Kaya Kundinger. Zora is also survived by numerous relatives, including Louise Kundinger Warren; Patti and Bob Witt; and Jim and Sheila Stilin. Zora was blessed with many friends, including Dawn Slack, who brought her tremendous joy and laughter as well as Holy Communion; and the ever-steadfast Frosty Vuchetich and Helen McGregor.

Zora was predeceased by her loving husband; her mother and father; her siblings, Anne Murkovich, Mary Stilin, Pete Murkovich, Edward (Mattie) Murkovich, Katherine Murkovich, and her granddaughter, Lori Kundinger.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Park Falls, on Jan. 9, 2014, Deacon Chet Ball officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at noon, followed by a birthday celebration at Padua Center at 1 p.m. Private family interment.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the Flambeau Hospital nursing staff, Park Manor Nursing Home administration and staff and Flambeau Hospice for their compassionate care.

We love you, Mom.
